The day after the announcement by the American laboratories Pfizer and German BioNTech of the effectiveness of their vaccine candidate, the European deputy ecologist Yannick Jadot said he was in favor of making the vaccine against Covid-19 compulsory.
“Yes”, answered the elected EELV on franceinfo to a question on the obligation of a vaccination against the virus, this Tuesday. “From the moment the vaccine is there, I hope that everyone will go to be vaccinated,” he added.
Some members of the environmental party, such as MEP Michèle Rivasi, have displayed their reservations, even their opposition to compulsory vaccination.
“Ok, there is Michèle Rivasi, and then there are 99.99% of the others”, within the party, replied Yannick Jadot, quickly adding that “Michèle Rivasi is for vaccination”.
“I have no doubt” that EELV is “in favor of vaccination,” continued Yannick Jadot. “We can not afford today to extend the period of confinement, the period of cultural, social, economic collapse of our country,” he pleaded.
French people reluctant to get vaccinated against Covid-19
According to an Ipsos poll published in September, France is among the countries where the intention to use the vaccine is the lowest. They would thus only be 59% to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in France, against 74% globally.
MEP EELV hailed “the hope” that Monday’s announcements gave rise to, seeing them as “the beginning of prospects”, but called on “the French not to relax their efforts” because “today ‘ hui, what saves us are the rules (sanitary, editor’s note), and it is not the vaccine, which will arrive, we hope, in a few months ”.
“Compulsory vaccination is obviously an avenue to consider”, also estimated the number 3 of the Republicans Aurélien Pradié on Public Senate.
On Monday, the American laboratories Pfizer and German BioNTech affirmed that their vaccine candidate was “90% effective” against Covid-19, according to the large-scale phase 3 trial underway, the last step before an application for approval.
