Europa League: Lille floats, Nice sinks

Thank you Lille. Thanks to the Northerners, at least one French club won in Europe this week. Christophe Galtier’s men won on the lawn of Sparta Prague (1-4).

A little earlier, Nice had, him, perfectly put in the mediocre tuning fork of the other French clubs. The Aiglons missed their debut on the European scene, losing heavily in Germany against Bayer Leverkusen (6-2).

6 Never has Nice, in all its European history, conceded more than 5 goals in a single match. Worse, it becomes the first French team to concede so many goals in a Europa League match since the creation of the event in 2009.

Lille’s Turkish attacking midfielder Yusuf Yazici offered the first European treble of his career. And he chose his trip well, because the air of Prague is perfectly successful for Northerners. This is only the second time in its history that Lille have scored at least three goals during a European trip. The first time was in October 2009… already in Prague, against Slavia!

It is very mediocre and recalls that the French record of the previous Champions League, with a finalist and a semi-finalist, was too good to last. In five European games this week, there is therefore only one victory (Lille), one draw (Rennes) and three defeats (OM, PSG and Nice). SIX goals scored and ELEVEN conceded… The UEFA index of French football, already in bad shape, is not going up
