Ten years ago, Mathieu Sapin was not interested in politics. Contacted by the newspaper Liberation in 2011, he found himself embarked on the team of candidate François Hollande until the evening of the second round. “Presidential campaign” (Ed. Dargaud, 2012), his account of this race for the supreme office, opened the doors of the Elysee Palace to him for a year.
After his comic strip “The Castle, a year behind the scenes at the Elysée” (Ed. Dargaud, 2015), Mathieu Sapin wanted to turn the page on politics. It was without counting on Gérard Depardieu, his film “Le Poulain” (2018) and his passion for Jean Racine, which led him to meet Emmanuel Macron during the in-between rounds of the 2017 presidential election.
In his new album “Comédie Française”, Mathieu Sapin tells how he was seduced by this new president, and questions the relationship of fascination between the artist and the power.
For Code Source, the designer returns in two episodes behind the scenes of his reports. First part.
