Thunderclap at the town hall of Crest (Drôme). The former minister and right-wing deputy Hervé Mariton saw his re-election invalidated this Wednesday by the administrative court of Grenoble.
On June 28, the former minister of the government of Dominique de Villepin was reelected by a hair at the head of this town of 9,000 inhabitants, with 51.67% of the vote and only 137 votes ahead of the list of union of the left of René-Pierre Halter, who had filed an appeal.
This rare decision is all the more surprising since it is opposed to the opinion delivered on October 2 by the public rapporteur during the hearing. The reasons given by René-Pierre Halter had not been considered sufficiently well founded. “Most often the public rapporteur is followed by the administrative court. This is not the case this time around. The public rapporteur had however argued in a very detailed way, to justify the confirmation of the result of the election ”, is astonished Hervé Mariton to France Blue.
He would have taken advantage of the means of the community
The content of the administrative court’s decision has not yet been made public. However, the organization by the municipality of “drive-in” cinema sessions and an operation of gift vouchers for the benefit of the traders of the city affected by the health crisis in the spring had caught the attention of the rapporteur and were put forward as “More serious reasons”.
“I am criticized for having done too much after the appearance of the coronavirus. This decision is surprising because we were in an exceptional period. I still have to get my team together ”, defends Hervé Mariton. He now plans to challenge this decision before the Council of State. This appeal being suspensive, the current municipal team would remain in place for the duration of the procedure, which may take a few months.
In mid-September, the Grenoble administrative court had canceled the result of the municipal elections of March in La Balme-de-Sillingy (Haute-Savoie), one of the first clusters of Covid-19 in France, due to the difficulty in having proxies established during this epidemic period.
