Beat the iron while it is still hot. A few hours after the shattering announcement of the return of Canal +, a historic broadcaster, at the center of French football, Maxime Saada showed a big smile this Friday morning at the RTL microphone.
The president of the management board of Canal +, obviously “happy to have found this outcome”, explained in particular how his group was going to organize itself to rebroadcast the Ligue 1 on and the League 2 its antennas. And Maxime Saada made a surprising announcement: “It is possible that we are launching a new channel”. Before adding, “it is under study”.

“We will bring together, for the first time, all Ligue 1 matches on the air, bring viewers back to Ligue 1 and restore value to this product,” continued the one who predicted the Mediapro fiasco. Before detailing: “The sports editorial teams of Canal + are on a war footing, […], the matches will be on Canal +, Canal + Sport, Canal + Décalé and it is possible that a new channel will be launched ”.

Maxime Saada also estimated that “Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 will be much better valued in the new system than in the old”. He also explained that he wanted “the League to make a call for tenders with all the lots as quickly as possible for subsequent seasons”.
Still, the Mediapro episode left traces in French football, and with this issue of broadcasting rights now resolved, links will have to be re-established. “There was a breach of confidence with the League and certain presidents, concedes in particular the president of the management board of Canal +. Now, we are on a logic of reconstruction ”.
