When getting on the bus to Chambly, this Saturday evening, Maxence Derrien looked grim. Half an hour earlier, his team of FC Chambly had just conceded a stinging defeat (4-0) to Auxerre, the fifth since the start of the season, which dragged him to last place in the standings. If the defensive midfielder does not want to be alarmed, he believes that the Picardy club must react quickly.

What is your feeling after this heavy setback?

MAXENCE DERRIEN. What to say ? When we take 4-0, it’s because we got through it. We are in a very complicated period. Whatever the opponent tries, it works, and whatever you try to do, it doesn’t. Every time the team opposite attacks, it’s a goal. From there, we cannot win. In times when things are wrong, nothing is right. We are right in it.

Are your difficulties explained only by this lack of success?

We’re not going to hide either. There is a question of success, but when you lose 3-0 or 4-0, it means that you are not at the level in those games. This does not mean that we will not be at the level all season. Now it’s either we cry, we bow our heads, we wait for May and we go down. Either we work and we stay united, and I think that’s what we do. We must not look for excuses or for fault.

So you don’t feel a team breaking up …

No, and that’s already good. Afterwards, some will undoubtedly speak and say that we are zero. I have already experienced it, at the Red Star (Editor’s note: in 2018-2109). We must get back to it and try to rectify the situation. We managed to do it last season. There aren’t that many new players, we have to be able to do it again.

“It’s still shit”

This difficult period in the middle of last season, with seven losses in eight games, is it an experience that can serve you?

Of course. At that time, nobody panicked, even if we lost matches. However, we took only one point out of 24 possible. There, we took five out of 24. It’s still shit (sic), but it’s better. We can’t wait to play against Dunkirk next Saturday. It’s the kind of game where we have to take points.

Are you worried ?

No, because there were only eight days. We must not panic, but we must be aware of the situation. We are not the only ones struggling. So yes, we are last, but we are Chambly. When we finished 10th last season, it was exceptional. We want to be 17th. We still have three places to scratch, and quite a few games to do so. We are able to reverse the trend.
