The affair arrives on the political ground and directly in its heart in the National Assembly. The deputies will get involved in the Mediapro affair and ask for clarification around the contract signed between the National Football League (LFP) and the Spanish group Mediapro, new broadcaster of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
LREM deputy of the 3rd district of the Alpes-Maritimes, Cédric Roussel affirms this Tuesday in a press release that “with all the members of the study group on the economy of sport, a series of hearings will be launched in order to place everyone in front of their responsibilities ”.
The deputy, who chairs this study group at the Palais Bourbon, calls for a rapid reaction from all players and authorities in French football in order to “remind Mediapro of its legal obligations.” It is a real hostage taking on the part of Mediapro which threatens the competitiveness of French football and the financing of our sports policies ”insists the deputy.
Recall that the boss of the Spanish group Mediapro announced last week that he had requested a payment deadline for his second installment concerning the rights of L 1 and L2 for an amount of 172 million euros. He also asked to renegotiate the amount for the 2020-2021 season (€ 780 million). A proposal that triggered a real tremor in French football, whose economy depends in part on this contract.
