Portuguese Grand Prix: historic victory for Hamilton that overtakes Schumacher

Lewis Hamilton made history even more this Sunday. With a 92 success, at the Portuguese Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver became the new record holder for victories in Formula 1. The Briton thus exceeded the legendary mark of Michael Schumacher (91 victories). “Thank you for believing in me, thank you for continuing to chase perfection. It’s an honor to work with you, ”said the Briton to his team after crossing the finish line.

Hamilton captured 21 victories at McLaren, from 2007 to 2012, then 71 more with Mercedes. “It’s a blessed day. It will take me time to fully realize. I don’t have the words for now, ”said the driver after the race.

This Sunday, he started from pole position for the 9th time of the season. He held on to his rank for a record, beating his teammate Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) at the finish. This victory brings him even closer to a 7th world title. Hamilton would thus equal the record of the same Schumacher.

On the French side, Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) finished 5th, Esteban Ocon (Renault) 8th, and Romain Grosjean (Haas) 16th for what was perhaps his last Grand Prix in F1.
