It is his lair, his haven of peace. Since leaving Monaco in the summer of 2017 for Paris, Kylian Mbappé has retained a close link with the Principality. When he feels the need to take a step back and move away for a while from the emergency of the capital, the 2018 world champion has got into the habit of joining the Rock. Last August, after the Champions League final lost to Bayern Munich (0-1), the Parisian number 7 came to relax for a few days with his group of friends in a hotel in the Principality.
“What he appreciates in Monaco is the tranquility he finds there,” confides an acquaintance. People can spot and recognize him in the hotel lobby where he stays, but they respect his privacy. This is not possible in Paris where it is difficult for him to walk in the street or to eat in restaurants. “
In Monaco, which he will find this Friday evening (9 p.m.) on the occasion of the trip of PSG, no need to go through the kitchens or through back doors to reach his table. Even if he has not kept an apartment on the Rock, he appreciates the art of living there. Star among the stars, Mbappé finds in the Principality the tranquility of an environment that hardly asks for it. Everything his parents had already come looking for when they chose the ASM training center for their son in 2013.
“Monaco was perfect for its development”
“His parents wanted him to be able to work in peace, to work in a healthy environment and to pass his baccalaureate. It was important to them, which he did. For all these reasons, Monaco was perfect for its development ”, notes a former Monegasque official. Not to mention the quality of ASM training which has seen great French footballers go from Thuram to Henry, and the showcase offered by such a club for anyone who succeeds in reaching its stages. Just after the title of champion of France, Mbappé did not want to leave Monaco in 2017. Not yet of age at the time, he thought that his progression could accommodate an additional season in his club of choice.
That was before Real Madrid and then PSG pulled out all the stops and made him change his mind. Despite this episode, the crack of Bondy kept esteem and attachment for the club which allowed him to flourish. And reciprocally. Last September, ASM inaugurated the new premises of its Academy, called La Diagonale, a stone’s throw from the Stade Louis-II. In one of the corridors that lead to the coaches’ office, there is a quote on a wall loaned to Kylian Mbappé: “Everything is possible as long as you work and believe in your qualities”. On Wednesday, the ASM community manager posted a photo of this maxim on the club’s social network. The Parisian striker replied: “A unique and historic club, but above all a big family. Thank you for contributing so much to my current success. “
