Already forced to make many adjustments due to a long list of injuries, Thomas Tuchel still had to adapt and cope with the injuries of four of his players during PSG’s clear victory on Saturday against Rennes (3-0).
What is your feeling after this victory when you deplore eight injured players before the game and you may have four more?
THOMAS TUCHEL. I am very satisfied and very proud, because it was difficult to find a starting eleven. Ander Herrera was dead before the game, and yet what he did is exceptional. For Paredes, we took risks, he should have played only 60 minutes. Ditto for Kean. But we showed solidarity and we made a collective effort.
However, you register new injuries. What are the news ?
Florenzi is very tired, but not injured. Kean has taken a lot of punches, but he’s been giving a lot in the last few games. I hope it’s not harsh. But Gueye, it’s still the thigh and, Kehrer, it’s once again the pubis, it’s serious.
Is there a problem with physical preparation?
Honestly, I do not know. We played 8 games in 22 days, which means that at the moment we are not training. Only recovery. And we always play at 9 p.m., so we’re running out of days to recuperate, with a lot of extra travel.
You did not renew the reversal between Marquinhos and Danilo. Is this the end of the experience?
We decide at each match. Kimpembe was injured, and next to Diallo, I had the choice between Kehrer and Marquinhos. I chose Marqui to give experience to Abdou next to him and not to associate Diallo and Kehrer who played little for us. In addition, Rennes are very dangerous on set pieces, so we needed four good header defenders. Danilo had to take a break, it was necessary. Marquinhos gave everything physically against Leipzig, so I preferred to place Paredes in the middle. In the second half, we played with 3 defenders, it was not the time to change. So we ended up like that with Marqui inside the defense, because he knows all the movements, he remains the heart and soul of this team. But it was the decision of the day.
How do you see Moise Kean?
He has a big heart and a lot of intensity. He is not scared. He’s tough, and I’d hate to be the defender playing against him. We sometimes missed that.
