The day after President Emmanuel Macron’s speech, the French Football Federation (FFF) clarified the situation for its national and amateur championships this Thursday morning.
As one might expect, like the professionals of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, three championships will also continue: the National, the D1 women and the D1 Futsal. A logical decision. In National, there are indeed five teams under pro status, including the Red Star. In the other teams, the players are under federal contracts and only play football. As for L1 and L2, the matches will take place behind closed doors. The international matches concerning the French team, the French women’s team and the Espoirs are also maintained.
On the other hand, all the other championships – National 2, National 3, Regional, departmental and youth – are suspended. The Coupe de France (2 rounds scheduled for November) is also put on hiatus.
“Following the announcement by the President of the Republic of sanitary containment measures to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, the FFF decided to suspend all leagues, districts and championships competitions National 3, National 2, Women’s D2, French Cups for men and women, and national youth championships (women and men) until Tuesday, December 1. All the matches that cannot be played during this period will be postponed to later dates, depending on the evolution of the health situation, ”the statement said.
However, the timetable risks being overloaded when the recovery is in place. National 2 and National 3 clubs which have salaried players under federal contracts will also have to be supported by the State via partial unemployment measures.
The big question remains the maintenance of training for minors. In any case, this is the will of the FFF and the Ministry of Sports.
