It is a trip that was not announced on the agenda. Emmanuel Macron is going this Thursday at the end of the morning to Perthus, in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
According to our information, the President of the Republic will speak about terrorism and border control. He will visit the Police and Customs Cooperation Center accompanied by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin.
It is a trip “on the theme of strengthening border controls,” confirms the Elysee. The president will also visit a “border control point for vehicles entering French territory”.
This visit took place in particular after the Nice attack. The main suspect in this attack, which killed three people, is a 21-year-old Tunisian who arrived in Europe via the Italian island of Lampedusa, which revived the debate on border controls.
Emmanuel Macron will also be accompanied by Clément Beaune, Secretary of State for European Affairs.
