The Stade Français restores confidence to Montpellier Hérault Rugby (MHR). The Parisians faced Saturday night the Héraultais, penultimate in the standings, for the late match of the 8th day of Top 14 and lost by the score of 31 to 6.
A rough game
The Stade Français faced a solid defense in Montpellier and its many approximations cost it: Vincent Martin scored a try in the 5th minute of play.
If the penalties of Joris Segonds respond provisionally to those of Benoît Paillaugue, Montpellier takes off after half an hour of play thanks to a test by Cobus Reinach. Half-time score: 23-6.
The second half is quieter, the wind and rain limiting the accuracy of the kicks and transmission. Stade Français struggles in their attempts to conquer the opposing ground and lacks discipline to set up their attacks.
The sanction does not take long to fall with a third try scored by Henry Martin three minutes from the end of regulation time and synonymous with an offensive bonus for Montpellier.
The player: Joris Segonds
The opening half was the rare light in the Parisian fifteen. His two penalties temporarily keep Stade Français in the game in the first half. In the second period, the opener repeatedly brings his team into the opposing 22 meters. His match was tarnished by a yellow card received in the 36th minute for obstruction.
The number: 7
With this precious victory, Montpellier put an end to a series of seven defeats in the league. The last victory of the Hérault in the top 14 dates back to December 4 against ASM Clermont Auvergne (21-15).
