Thursday at the microphone of Europe 1, the Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports Jean-Michel Blanquer had denounced “Islamo-leftism” which, according to him, is “wreaking havoc at the university”, notably taking the student union Unef and La France Insoumise are the targets.
All were keen to respond to these words which are in the vein of the comments made by the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin and a number of political leaders, including Manuel Valls and Bernard Cazeneuve.
“Avoid unnecessary amalgamations and shortcuts”
“No, universities cannot be held to be complicit in terrorism”. The Conference of University Presidents (CPU) expressed its “emotion” on Friday, recalling that the faculties were “institutions for the democratization of scientific knowledge, essential in the city”. “In these dramatic times, it is essential that unity is the order of the day and that national cohesion, called for by the President of the Republic, be for everyone an invitation to avoid unnecessary amalgamations and shortcuts”, she continues.
The most frank attacks, Jean-Michel Blanquer had reserved them for members of rebellious France and the left student union of the UNEF. Calling to “fight fanaticism”, he pointed out all forms of “intellectual complicity” in crimes like that of Professor Samuel Paty, murdered for showing caricatures of Mohammed.
In a press release, the UNEF in turn denounced “a Minister of National Education who stirs up hatred with unacceptable amalgamations”, a “deleterious climate” and an “insult” to students. The organization also enjoins Jean-Michel Blanquer “to reconsider his statements” and announces that it will take “legal measures to [sa] disposition “.
“JM Blanquer prefers to legitimize a vocabulary from the extreme right”
“We are in the Republican camp, there is no debate on this subject”, decided on franceinfo the deputy LFI Clémentine Autain, “angry” against these successive statements which “stir up hatred”.
“It is unacceptable that in our country today we leave alone (the president of the National Rally, Editor’s note) Marine Le Pen, red carpet on all sets, without ever bringing her contradiction, as if she were in the republican space while a major part of the left would be outside the Republican nails ”, lambasted Ms. Autain.
“JM Blanquer prefers to legitimize a vocabulary from the far right, to deepen the climate of hatred, it’s easier but so dangerous”, for his part tweeted PCF MP Elsa Faucillon in support.
