National unity is only a distant memory. To be convinced, it was enough to watch the sad spectacle offered Tuesday evening by the Assembly. That of a dislocated political class, despite the gravity of the moment. “It will ch … dead next week, hearses will be in front of hospitals”, sums up, cash, the MoDem deputy of Loiret Richard Ramos. “I had never seen such an atmosphere since 2017, it reminded me of the time of marriage for all”, summarizes the president of the PS group Valérie Rabault.
It all started around 9 p.m. MEPs must return to the hemicycle after dinner. “The Republicans had reserved all the tables in the restaurant of the assembly,” said an elected LREM. We could no longer stay to eat there. So, since the normal restaurants are closed outside, many members of the majority returned home to eat before the end of the night session. They were slow to return. We found ourselves in the minority. “
Result: two amendments, and not the least, then go against the advice of the government. One, filed by LR, provides for the end of the state of health emergency on December 14 and not February 16, as the government originally wanted. Another, from the Liberties and Territories group, introduced a review clause on November 30 to extend this state of emergency.
“That’s the reality, if you don’t want to hear it, get out of here!”
In the ministers’ bench, the inexperienced Minister for SMEs Alain Griset cannot control the situation. The Minister of Health Olivier Véran flies to his rescue. He returned dare-dare from a trip to a hospital in Seine-Saint-Denis. Relating what he saw in an intensive care unit, he strongly attacked the opposition. “That’s the reality, if you don’t want to hear it, get out of here!” Cries, invective, confusion: the situation escalates. “We are at home in the assembly, it was up to him to go out if that posed a problem for him,” chokes Valérie Rabault.

“The opposition has not shown a spirit of responsibility, what it proposes aims to make confinement without confinement”, regrets to the Parisian Minister of Relations with Parliament Marc Fesneau. “LR was once a governing party. While our caregivers are fighting every moment, LR is doing populism and its deputies want to weaken the state of emergency, ”adds the boss of the LREM group Christophe Castaner.
Hard week for macronism. After the boondoggles on so-called “essential” businesses, the government stumbles in the chamber. “There is an authority problem with Prime Minister Jean Castex. He lacks political clout in the face of ministers stronger than him. As for parliamentarians, they often have the feeling of being despised, ”squeals the MoDem Richard Ramos, yet a member of the majority.
To regain control, the government asked for the “reserve of votes”. The text will be voted on in one go, with only part of the amendments. “Everything will therefore be cleaned (sic) this afternoon or this evening”, decrypts a heavyweight of the majority. A history of the campaign is reassured: “Luckily, people have their heads elsewhere, at the moment. They look on the side of the United States, not of the assembly ”.
