The Blues carried out a double operation this Saturday by winning in Portugal (0-1) on the 5th day of Group 3 of the League of Nations. They first qualified for the final tournament of the competition scheduled, from October 6 to 10, 2021, in the winning country of Group 1 of League A (Poland, Italy or the Netherlands). Here they are also guaranteed to inherit a group of five and not six for the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (November 21 to December 18).
Currently 2nd in the Fifa rankings behind Belgium, the France team is certain to be among the seeds of hat 1 during the qualifiers. The Habs will thus avoid facing a selection of hat 6 (Moldova, Malta, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar and San Marino). The top ten from each qualifying group will win their ticket to the World Cup and the second ten will play play-offs to decide the last five tickets (the European contingent will be made up of 15 teams).
With one less opponent, Didier Deschamps’ men save themselves two games against the weakest selections on the continent. The draw for the Europe zone, organized by Fifa, will take place on December 7 in Zurich (Switzerland).
